Early learning
Lingumi is an early learning language app that helps children aged 2–6 build a lifelong love for learning and start speaking English with confidence.
I worked as a design lead for over 10 years helping shape all creative and user experience touch points across the product including UI/UX, art direction and game design.
Once upon a time…
2016
Founders Toby Mather and Adit Trivedi launched Lingumi as a physical AR toy for preschoolers.
Lingumi is born
2017 - 2018
We ditched the cubes and transitioned to a asynchronous daily lesson model as we hit gold in China and Taiwan.
Pivot to full digital
2019 - 2021
We turned up the difficulty and introduced speech recognition alongside introduction of real life teachers.
To complement the app, we designed physical learning tools like flashcards, storybooks, and play kits giving families more opportunities to play and learn.
Rapid growth
2022-2024
At its peak, Lingumi reached incredible milestones. We taught more than a 1 million lessons, had 10,000+ daily active users and we were named one of Europes top edtech start ups.
Scale and impact
2024
Lingumi was acquired by Novakid (a global online English learning platform) and now operates independently in asian markets.

Games galore
Most of my time at Lingumi was spent building fun, educationally grounded games alongside our in house teachers. We brought characters to life to help kids recognise words and sounds, then integrated teacher videos for interactive speaking practice
Characters
The Lingumi characters were directly inspired by the app's original physical cubes. While Peek, Yum, Hush, Boo, and Bob didn’t speak, their distinct personalities brought them to life, drawing inspiration from characters like the Teletubbies.
Positive impact
Knowing I had a small impact on children's lives all around the world is a blessing. Here’s a fun video I found.
